One of the most popular girl groups of the 1980’s was The Bangles. Their hits included "Manic Monday," "Hazy Shade of Winter" and the number-one smash, "Walk Like An Egyptian." A major contribution to the band’s success was their pixie-voiced lead singer, Susanna Hoffs. Hoffs’ blend of vocal determination and both musical and physical sexuality proved a marketable commodity for the band, and were key components to their success.

Fast forward to the present, and though The Bangles remain together and are still on tour, Hoffs has put together a song cycle of 1960’s style material and released it for her fans. Clocking in at just over a half hour, "Someday" presents ten new songs in the style of many of the groups and artists from that decade that have inspired Hoffs over the years, including Burt Bacharach (particularly his collaborations with Dionne Warwick), the Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel and Petula Clark.

The recording was produced by Mitchell Froom, who also plays keyboards throughout the release, just as he did on "Manic Monday" back in 1986. Froom helps Hoffs keep the arrangements simple, showcasing the singer’s clear vocals, and allowing the lyrics to shine through, especially on "One Day," "This is the Place" and the title track. Hoffs wrote the majority of the recording with Nashville newcomer Andrew Brassell, with musical help from members of Elvis Costello’s band. This combination of talents across the generations allows the songs to avoid nostalgia and to remain fresh, even as they bring images of flower children and peaceful days on an era long since past.

Hoffs is on tour with The Bangles these days, but fans can enjoy her solo effort through all digital formats and through the fan-friendly "Noise Trade" website.
