Gloria Steinem in Conversation with Cheryl Strayed in Seattle

EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.

On Sunday, November 8 at 7 p.m., Hedgebrook and Elliott Bay Book Company will present Gloria Steinem in conversation with Cheryl Strayed at Seattle's Benaroya Hall to celebrate the release of Steinem's new book"My Life On the Road"(Random House; On Sale: October 27, 2015). The book was penned by Steinem largelyat Hedgebrook's Whidbey Island retreat.

"We're thrilled to bring Gloria to Seattle to share this beautiful, personal book that she's been quietly writing at Hedgebrook's retreat on Whidbey Island. Over the past two decades, she's returned numerous times to work on 'My Life On the Road' here -- so her connection to this area runs deep," said Amy Wheeler, Executive Director.

In her first book in more than 20 years, Steinem -- writer, activist, organizer, and one of the most inspiring leaders in the world -- offers a candid account of how her early years led her to an ontheroad kind of life, traveling, listening to people, learning and creating change.

Adventure and travel have been overwhelmingly male turf, from de Tocqueville to Joseph Campbell to "The Sons of Anarchy." In "My Life on the Road,"Steinem writes about some of the extraordinary people, famous and not, from whom she has learned along the way. In this funny, moving, profound account of a lifelong journey, Steinem also reflects on how the most transformative ideas sometimes come from unexpected people and encounters. Living in an on the road state of mind can promote change in the future, and can help us better understand others, our times, and ourselves.

Steinem will be joined in conversation by Cheryl Strayed, also celebrating the new release of her book of notable quotes, "Brave Enough." Strayed, author of the bestselling memoir and film "Wild," is the ideal person to engage Steinemin a conversation about life on the road.
