The New York Pops Presents The Music of John Williams: From Spielberg to 'Star Wars'

On April 8, 2016, at 8:00 p.m., The New York Pops will take center stage at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage in "The Music of John Williams: From Spielberg to 'Star Wars.'"

Music Director and Conductor Steven Reineke will lead the orchestra in a celebration of the work of legendary film composer John Williams, with a strong focus on his collaborations with Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg. The orchestra will breathe life into some of cinema's most iconic scores, including selections from "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," and "Jurassic Park." The concert will also include a look at Williams' seminal scoring of the "Star Wars" films, from their beginnings in the 1970s to today's "The Force Awakens."

"It's always a special moment when the orchestra itself takes the spotlight," said Music Director Steven Reineke. "I am so proud of the work that our New York Pops musicians do every day, and I am so glad that this concert will feature them. I can't imagine a richer, more exciting concert program than the one we've put together to celebrate John Williams. Every time I conduct these movie scores, I'm transported back to the movie theater where I heard them for the first time. You can count on Carnegie Hall being filled with thoughts of Jedi knights, aliens phoning home, and T-Rexes before the night is done!"

The New York Pops returns to Carnegie Hall on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 7:00 p.m., for its 33rd Birthday Gala, "Do You Hear the People Sing," honoring the creative team behind "Les Mis�rables" and "Miss Saigon," Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Sch�nberg. The concert will feature performances by Broadway stars Stephanie J. Block, Jon Jon Briones, Jeremy Jordan, Norm Lewis, Patti LuPone, Eva Noblezada, John Owen-Jones, Hugh Panaro, Lea Salonga, and Marie Zamora. The concert will also feature Judith Clurman's Essential Voices USA, as well as students from The New York Pops' Kids on Stage music education program and Camp Broadway Kids. Proceeds will support the orchestra and its PopsEd programs throughout all five boroughs of New York City. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on March 7, 2016.

STEVEN REINEKE is the Music Director of The New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, Principal Pops Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Principal Pops Conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Principal Pops Conductor Designate for the Houston Symphony, beginning in the 2017-2018 season. Mr. Reineke is a frequent guest conductor with The Philadelphia Orchestra and has been on the podium with the Boston Pops, The Cleveland Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia. His extensive North American conducting appearances include San Francisco, Houston, Seattle, Edmonton and Pittsburgh. As the creator of more than one hundred orchestral arrangements for the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Mr. Reineke's work has been performed worldwide, and can be heard on numerous Cincinnati Pops Orchestra recordings on the Telarc label. His symphonic works "Celebration Fanfare," "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Casey at the Bat" are performed frequently in North America. His numerous wind ensemble compositions are published by the C.L. Barnhouse Company and are performed by concert bands around the world. A native of Ohio, Mr. Reineke is a graduate of Miami University of Ohio, where he earned bachelor of music degrees with honors in both trumpet performance and music composition. He currently resides in New York City with his husband, Eric Gabbard.
