The Angry Birds Movie

Before the Pokemon Go! craze was dominating the pedestrian walkways all across the country, there was another smartphone game that had straphangers and commuters addicted to the tiny digital screens in their pockets. Someone got smart and decided that perhaps, with the right cast of comedians, there might be something more here. The result is "The Angry Birds Movie" now bringing the video game to life!

Starring the voice talents of "SNL" alum Jason Sudeikis and Maya Rudolph, with Danny McBride stealing the show, the video game characters are vividly portrayed in this madcap animated adventure that plays (almost) as relentlessly as the video game itself. When Red (Sudeikis) is sent to anger management classes to deal with some of his issues, the world of the birds is suddenly turned upside down by the arrival of the duplicitous pigs who end up stealing all the birds' eggs!

With the birds having lived a rather complacent existence, Red is forced to put some of his anger issues to good use and rally the troops in order to launch a retaliatory attack upon the egg-snatching pigs! With the help of his buddies Chuck and Bomb, Red must save the day. For fans of the game, "The Angry Birds Movie" will certainly entertain and captivate. Visually the film is quite impressive and proves how far the technology continues to push forward.

Unlike some of its contemporaries "The Angry Birds Movie" is rather thin on story and just banks on one punch line after another. It's an easily engaging enough distraction, but there isn't any reason to get invested in these characters who are only as deep as the color spectrum they represent. "The Angry Birds Movie" is fun to watch, until the lack of a narrative becomes obvious, then it just becomes as hypnotizing as the game upon which it's based.

Level up with the Blu-ray's additional bonus features which include 4 animated shorts starring "The Hatchlings" with an all-new episode thrown in for good measure. There also several deleted scenes and more interactive tutorials that teach you to rave along with the Birds and Pigs, and even a step-by-step look at crafting your own Piggy Tower!
