In 1999, an Arabian city magically arose on the Atlantic Ocean shore in Fire Island Pines. Meant as a celebration of Beach, the 1979 party that cemented the Pines' reputation as the most glamorous gay beach resort town in the world, Pines Party became an annual celebration of this unique community, where the rolling boardwalks lead to gorgeous beach houses. As the only all-night mega-dance event on an oceanfront beach, Pines Party occupies a special niche in the gay calendar. Each year, men from New York City and around the world take the ferry to this isolated town for the unique experience of partying under the stars and lights of the specially built dance floor, with the moonlight reflected in the surf just beyond — and all to benefit the community and Stonewall Community Foundation. In addition to the main event on Saturday night, the weekend's events include a pool party, cocktail reception and, of course, all of the goings-on at the nightspots in the Pines and neighboring Cherry Grove. This year the theme is "I Do," so expect lots of bridal veils and sexy tuxedoes.
