With hit tracks like "Don’t F**k With My Money" and "Multi-Millionaire," a free concert in this economy from electro-synth artist Penguin Prison seems like one heck of a luxury. But that’s exactly what the native New Yorker is giving his audience when he drops into the Sweet Spot at Industry Bar on Tuesday, February 28 @ 11pm.

Penguin Prison is the colorful moniker by which musician Chris Glover and his band are known, as well as the name of his debut album. "Penguin Prison" is an 80’s evocative representation of modern-pop. Glover’s pleasantly hypnotic melodies leave little room for free will to keep the beats from taking over. The minute the rhythms start to play it’s impossible to resist surrendering to the euphoric sensation he’s able to ignite with his catchy hooks.

"It’s not like I only exclusively listened to 80’s music," Glover confirms. It’s difficult to not get transported back to a simpler, more carefree existence while listening to "Penguin Prison," "I’m really influenced by Quincy Jones’ production on Michael Jackson’s early album, and Prince and Talking Heads." He cites the King of Pop’s "Off The Wall" and "Thriller" as two of his greatest influences. "That’s definitely as close to perfect in a pop album as you’re going to get. He was just the biggest star ever."

Don’t F**k With His Money!

But Glover isn’t worried about having to carve out an iconic path for himself in pop as did his idols. "I’m just trying to make the best music that I can make." He’s in good company having been a schoolmate of R&B protégé Alicia Keyes. He attended Bard College where he started to formulate his early, stage performance persona. "I was envisioning playing live and wanting people to have a lot of fun." With a textured palette in everything from contemporary dance to R&B and pop, including rap, the unexpected is to be expected when Glover hits the road.

Having him headline an appearance at the Sweet Spot - Industry Bar’s Tuesday night, is a thrill for the evening’s host and master of ceremonies DJ Kevin Graves. "It’s rare that I like so much material from a single artist," Graves shared. "Penguin Prison carved out a sound, but each release is fresh. He keeps it interesting with the quality of his production and songwriting. Man’s got skills." And no doubt they’ll be on display when he takes the stage on Tuesday night.

"I want there to be a party - a party when I play," Glover says...so with that in mind, make plans to start the week with a little weekend-in-the-middle, and come catch Chris Glover, Penguin Prison live when he gives it away for free on Tuesday, February 28! The "Multi-Millionaire" just can’t help himself.
